About the Coalition for International Education

The Coalition for International Education is an ad hoc group of 28 national higher education organizations with policy and advocacy interests in the U.S. Department of Education's international education programs and initiatives.

Central focus of the Coalition is on the foreign language and international education programs of the Higher Education Act, Title VI and Fulbright-Hays 102(b)(6), which support the education of Americans about the cultures and languages of other nations. Focus also is placed on other international education programs and initiatives of the U.S. Department of Education (such as those in the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education and others).

The Coalition strives for higher education community consensus on policies affecting these international education programs and initiatives. It is concerned with Congressional authorization and appropriations legislation, the Administration's annual budget requests, federal regulations, and other actions having impact on the policies and programs of Title VI/Fulbright-Hays and other U.S. Department of Education programs that support international and foreign language education. The Coalition, its member organizations, and constituents take a proactive role in educating Members of Congress and federal and private sector officials about national needs in international education.

Miriam A. Kazanjian (makazanjian@earthlink.net), Consultant on International Education and Government Relations, provides coordination of the Coalition.
