Welcome to the Tobacco Project Photo Gallery. On the following pages of this gallery, you will find pictures that illustrate almost every aspect of the Tobacco Project, from its conception to the installations that were on display.

December Exhibit Photos

These are the most recent exhibit photographs from the Duke Homestead and Tobacco Museum, Lilly Library, and the Perkins Library installations.

Photo Gallery of Preparations

Xu Bing visited several areas to get ideas for the Project; amongst them were a factory, farm, and warehouse. He visited other early sites, then engaged in a period of library research. After attending several meetings, he made his final site selection, then drew preliminary sketches.

Preliminary Sketches of Installation Exhibits

These sketches represent some of the ideas that Xu Bing had for his three installations at Duke. Mainly, these sketches outline exhibits currently in Perkins Library.
