(Michelangelo Antonioni, 1960, 141m, Italy, Italian w/subtitles & English, B/W, DVD) “L’Avventura,” one of Antonioni’s most gripping works, features expert photography and an electric cast that, together, seem to try to fool the audience. A young woman goes missing after quarreling with her lover while on a yachting trip with friends to a local island. There are complications and unresolved questions surrounding the investigation of her disappearance that leave the film’s viewers in suspense.
