The DUCIS Graduate Awards for Research and Training provide graduate students working on international, regional or comparative research with funding for travel to archival and research sites inside and outside the continental United States, for attendance at specialized conferences, or for foreign language & methods training. Awards range from $500 to $2,500. Funding requests may include costs of international and in-country travel, living expenses, and directly-related research materials.
To be eligible, the applicant must be enrolled full time in a graduate or professional school program at Duke University and must have been a regular participant during 2009-2010 in one of the working groups or seminars sponsored by the Duke University Center for International Studies. The working groups and seminars for 2009-2010 are:
- University Seminar on Global Governance and Democracy
- University Seminar on Globalization and the Artist (GATA)
- Graduate Seminar – Global Health
- Graduate Seminar – Health, Politics and Justice
- Graduate Seminar – The Political Party and its Alternatives
Funding may be used between June 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011. Please note that while students seeking support for dissertation research are encouraged to apply, funding is not meant to replace external funding. Dissertation students are strongly encouraged to apply for external support. The number of awards is subject to availability of funds in the next fiscal year.
