Duke News focuses on ‘Bringing Diplomacy to Duke Students’

Posted: Dec. 5th, 2008 at 11:37 am by Dan Smith

Duke News‘ Josh Stillman profiles Duke’s new Diplomat-in-Residence, Steve Kelly.

Kelly said he looks forward to his two years stationed at Duke, noting that it is both a great opportunity for him and a valuable resource for the university.  He said that now more than ever, with the economic crisis and the increasing significance of foreign relations, is a perfect time for students to look at careers in Foreign Service.

There are opportunities for students to get involved here at Duke, he said.  One student assisted him at this year’s career fair and later served as escort to Patrick Duddy, U.S. ambassador to Venezuela, during his visit.  Kelly said his message for Duke undergrads is that everyone can participate.

Dan Smith is the Assistant Director for Programs at the Duke University Center for International Studies.
