Ten Tips for Lobbying Congress

Lobbying, or to use the fancier term “government relations,” is important.  Your senators and representatives want to know what people in their district think, and they also want to be known for good constituent services.  So lobbying, especially when it comes from the grass roots, can make a real difference.  If your college or university has a Federal Relations office, be sure to keep in touch with the people there.  They can be helpful, and you want them to be your allies.  With that as background, here are the Ten Tips. » Read the rest of this entry «

The Evolution of the International Center

A center for international studies is often the first interdisciplinary academic unit established by a university as evidence of a commitment to international education. During the Cold War a large number of such centers were established and were permitted to compete for Federal support through Title VI of the National Defense Education Act. The dominant paradigm for these centers was the realist, or game-theoretic, approach to international relations (IR).
