Remzije Istrefi, a visiting Fulbright scholar at Duke and lecturer in the Political Science department at the University of Pristina and author focusing on human rights issues recently spoke on the issue of human rights in Kosovo, under the administration of UNMIK, the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, at an event sponsored by the Duke University Center for International Studies, Center for Slavic and Eurasian Studies and the Duke Human Rights Center.

Ms. Istrefi’s working experience includes among others: two years working experience as human rights activist with the Council for Defending Human Rights and Freedoms based in Mitrovica, further she worked as a senior legal assistant with Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Kosovo Verification Mission (KVM0. As a war refugee, she worked with International NGO World Vision( WV) active in Ulqin Montenegro as a language assistant. From 1999, she worked as a human rights officer with OSCE based in Mitrovica.
Her main interest is transformation and development of Kosovar Legislation and their conformity with International Human Rights standards.
Ms. Istrefi received her L.L.M on International Human Rights Law from the University of Notre Dame and her B.A. from the Faculty of Law in the University of Pristina.
